Dave Carey serves as the chief executive officer, reporting directly to the Board of Directors and oversees all day-to-day aspects of the association, including: strategy, advocacy, finances, staff and delivering value to members. He is a government relations, regulatory affairs, policy and international trade professional with extensive management and political experience.
Dave joined CSTA in May 2012 and has held roles of increasing seniority focusing on stakeholder and government relations, regulatory affairs, policy development and international trade.
Prior to joining CSTA, Dave held various roles on Parliament Hill as a political staffer with a particular focus on international trade. During his time on the Hill he was directly involved with moving three free trade agreements through the House of Commons and into the Senate and worked on two federal and one provincial election campaign.
In 2018, Dave was nominated by industry and appointed by the federal government to serve as the Industry Co-Chair of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Seed Sector Value Chain Roundtable.
Dave holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Concentration in Public Law from Brock University and numerous other university certificates.
Manager, Communications and Member Services
Liz Lumsden is the Manager, Communications and Member Services. She leads external and internal communications to build on CSTA’s strong reputation and ensure value for membership.
Liz joins CSTA from the Ontario Public Service, where she spent over six years working in strategic communications. Liz led stakeholder and public consultations across the province, wrote speeches for members of Cabinet and developed communications plans on high-profile files. She held senior advisory roles at the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Ministry of International Trade.
Liz holds an Honours Degree in History and Early Modern Studies from the University of Kings College and Dalhousie University and an Honours Graduate Certificate in Public Relations from Humber College. Liz is also a recipient of the Ontario Amethyst Award for Excellence in Public Service.
Manager, Regulatory Affairs and Trade

Claudio Feulner is the Manager, Regulatory Affairs and Trade of the CSTA, reporting directly to the Executive Director. He acts as the technical and scientific lead for the association. Additionally, he keeps the committees engaged all year round to ensure progress on work plan items.
Claudio holds a Master of Science degree in plant science and cell biology from RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Prior to joining CSTA in September 2017, Claudio focused on phytopathology and plant stress physiology during his studies.
He accumulated three years of practical research laboratory experience including work with CRISPR-Cas9. A certificate in integrated pest management was also part of his education.
Lead, Government and Industry Relations

Lauren Martin, Lead, Government and Industry Relations, reports directly to the Executive Director, having joined CSTA in 2018. In her role, she identifies the issues of CSTA’s membership and collaborates with government staff, elected politicians and our stakeholders to remedy them.
Raised on a farm in Southern Ontario, Lauren’s passion for food and agriculture is life-long. She has worked on a range of local, national and international food and agricultural issues; most notably interning with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. A lawyer by training, she practiced law for a few years before returning to agriculture. Prior to joining CSTA, Lauren was in a similar advocacy role with the Canada Organic Trade Association.
Lauren’s education includes an Honors Bachelor of Environmental Studies and Business from the University of Waterloo and a Juris Doctorate degree from the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University.
When not at work, Lauren can be found outside with her horse, on her skis or bike, or eating good food.
Kristen St. Denis

Kristen St. Denis is the Executive Administrator and Meeting Planner of the CSTA and reports directly to the Executive Director.
Kristen joined CSTA in January 2012 and has conducted a variety of administrative roles as needed by the association. Each year she focuses on planning and delivering quality semi-annual and annual meetings across Canada to be enjoyed by the CSTA members.
Prior to joining CSTA, Kristen worked in both the Human Resources and Recruitment departments of local high-tech companies before running a home daycare while staying home with her two kids.
Kristen holds a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from Algonquin College.
